Frequently asked questions.
Learning a new language gives you a way to a new world, new perspective and of course knowledge of physical aspects of another country: culture, traditions, beliefs, history and the mindset of the people.
It trains your tongue to be more flexible with words and learning a new language definitely makes you understand more of your mother tongue.
In my opinion, the best age to start learning a foreign language is maybe after the completion of 12 years of age, where the child knows to differentiate between the languages and does not mix up while speaking.
Best is to start learning a foreign language for fun with different fun activities like singing a song or narrating a story. If there are no plans to move to another country, try to avoid learning the languages for exams or certificates.
We teach three languages at LingoThoughts: German, French, and Japanese.
Again, this is a personal opinion - German is the easiest of the three as the written and the spoken language have the same sound. One can compare this language with Hindi or Marathi or most of the Indian Regional languages.
French has similar grammar to that of German, but pronunciations are quite challenging. It will take a while to get used to them, but definitely with regular practice it is achievable.
Japanese is one of the most difficult languages because it uses a completely new script which is also of three different types. The grammar can again be compared to Marathi, but it definitely needs a lot of practice and determination to learn it. Of course, it is not impossible to achieve your goals.
If you know how to communicate well, in whichever language, then you can learn any other foreign language. By communication I mean using not only words and sentences and grammar, I actually mean using your body language, hand actions, facial expressions, human feelings and reading pictures. This is the reason, most of the good language schools prefer teaching in the same language and not translating the words. It might be difficult in the initial days, but with some patience, everything is possible.
To get anywhere with a foreign language, one has to complete a certain number of levels to be confident in that language. One cannot just complete A2 level (2nd level) and expect to get some great opportunities at work. It’s like completing your 10th class and expecting a package of Rs. 20 lacs per annum.
If you wish to make a career purely in a foreign language, then you can find your interests in Teaching and training, translation, interpretation, and content writing. Said that, you need to pursue specialized courses to be able to officially work at any company or to even start your own business.
If you have a different background, for example, if you are a journalist, you might add a foreign language to your CV and get jobs in that country.
Of course! I would in fact suggest that one should start learning the language with the sole motive of enjoying the language, the structure of the sentences and the culture of the country. Then step by step get into the benefits of learning. As an observation in my classes, students who learned German just to explore it have performed much better in exams and their careers than the students whose motives were to only achieve a certificate.
That’s completely the choice of the learner. You can choose based on the difficulty level of the language, or opportunities based on that language or just the sound of the language.
It’s not that difficult to start your language journey with LingoThoughts.
